CREATIVE ARTs club: Creative-in-residence application
Creatives-in-Residence are local or regional artists who will instruct two to three workshops per week for four weeks during the academic school year. These workshops may be on site, off site, or both, running for two hours each session. As a CIR, you will receive a stipend of $600 paid twice during your residency. You will have a separate budget for specialty supplies, any remaining supplies will either go home with the teens or retained by the museum. The goal of a CIR is to engage with teens, show them your artistic niche, explain the local and national art world from your perspective, and help the students develop a portfolio-ready product in the four weeks. Sometimes different students come each week, which makes it difficult to facilitate a four-week lesson. We suggest shorter projects that can build toward a demonstration of the skill you are teaching them.
The last CIR of the year will spend six weeks with the teens working toward a social, civic, or entrepreneurial project. This should be based on the artists’ own experience and should demonstrate thoughtfulness as a culminating experience for teens. The capstone CIR will receive a stipend of $800 paid three times during the residency.
