Open call for papers:
Artifice: Essays on the Implications of Art in the Age of AI
Open call for artists February 18 — March 23, 2025
The Delaware Contemporary will be focusing on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the art world, and in turn how art is being made in the age of AI. The 2025 Biennial celebrates and critiques the advances in technology that give artists new tools and insights to expand human creativity. The season will be led by three guest curators who are content specialists in networked, digital, and computer arts. They will select artists from the open call and their own networks to curate exhibitions through the six galleries of the museum.
As a companion to the visual arts in the museum galleries, we will be publishing an anthology of essays that dig deep into the philosophical implications of this quickly expanding technology. While the artwork in the galleries will potentially celebrate the successes of artists using AI as a creative tool, the anthology will focus on a critical look at aspects such as copyrights, ownership, environmental harm, and capitalist greed regarding the art world.
Your submission should reflect a deep interest, research, and understanding of the opportunities and implications of artificial intelligence and how it impacts artists and art making. We are looking for a wide range of perspectives that will help deepen the conversation around this controversial topic.
Please click the button below to apply to the open call. You will need to fill out your personal information and upload a 450-word abstract outlining the main points and results of your essay. If you have a completed essay/article that has never been published in another volume, you may upload that.
