In relief printing, a reduction print is a multicolor print in which separate colors are printed from the same block at different stages (as opposed to a multi-block relief print which uses separate carved blocks for each color.) After the first color of the design is printed, the block is "reduced" by carving away the areas for printing the next color. Each color requires more of the block to be cut away.
