Fallingwater Series 2
Fallingwater Series 2
HAND SEWN MASKS by Kathrine Page
The name Fallingwater is undeniably synonymous with the late Art Deco masterpiece architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright in Mill Run, Pennsylvania. With its iconic cantilevered balconies juxtaposing the river below, who isn’t bedazzled by nature’s gift of water buttressed by a magnificent edifice in stone, concrete, and glass? Wright considered all materials, design, and colors to correspond with the natural environment as a means to commingle art and nature. Taking cue from this natural wonder and architectural marvel, I’ve created a new series of masks. The fabric stands alone in its watery imprint with colors that reticulate and ooze into and away from one another. The lone vertical ribbon intersects the meandering horizontality of the watery pattern. The band of raw silk along the top edge and the band of purple along the lower edge bracket the design in a landscape formula. The abstract patterned button punctuates the asymmetrical design. In all, art and nature once again conspire, but here, in 6 x 12 inches of fabric, designed to keep falling biological particulates from any infectives.
MATERIALS: 100% Cotton, raw silk, Pellon interfacing, polyester ribbon, painted coconut button.
