VESSEL INVITATIONAL: REVISIONING THE RECEPTACLE
March 5 - May 13, 2021
Carole Bieber & Marc Ham Gallery
VESSEL INVITATIONAL: REVISIONING THE RECEPTACLE will address the vessel as an object, subject, and concept. The Delaware Contemporary will invite artists who creatively explore the vase, urn, amphora, etc., through a variety of methodologies, contexts, and materials that are recycled, upcycled, “extreme” or subdued. Clay, metal, wood, glass, paper, fiber, plastic, seeds, soap, assemblage, and other materials will expand the idea of the ewer beyond traditional contours to generate new perspectives. In examining a balanced yet diverse range of expressions, VESSEL INVITATIONAL leaves room for a subtle alternative to the world where the receptacle becomes the dialogue with the viewer, asking “what is a vessel?” and “what form does it take?” By accentuating subtle or obvious alterations, this exhibition will question whether objects displace or contain space while evincing the receptacle’s continued relevance.
