The Delaware Contemporary proudly stands in solidarity with protestors across the nation committed to breaking the systems that create and maintain racism, oppression, bigotry, and inequity. Our hearts are with people in our community and people across the country who have suffered, and are suffering, from acts of intolerable racism, violence, and injustice. We are committed to equity and inclusion and recognize there is more that we can do to create a better society.
In light of the protest, "We Still Can't Breathe (March for George Floyd & Breonna Taylor)," scheduled for 6 PM on Friday, June 5 in the neighboring Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park, we have decided to postpone our Art Escape Drive-Thru event. To show our support for the protest, and The Delaware Contemporary's solidarity to fight against racism, social injustice, and the profound loss of innocent black life in America, our staff will still be onsite Friday, June 5, from 4 - 6 PM to hand out art-making materials in our parking lot.
Now is the time to listen. We at The Delaware Contemporary care deeply about our role in engaging civic dialogue through the arts. To hear the voices in our community, we invite artists and community members to participate in a gallery "take-over" through the month of June. We have dedicated our DuPont II Gallery as our response space and we offer this as an all-inclusive, safe place for peaceful expression and community engagement.
