Interactive art and design has become more seamless, more engaging, and arguably, more enmeshed within the fine arts community. Seldom featured within physical spaces, these digitally crafted experiences can provide a more comprehensive and evolved perspective on contemporary art. Each ARTCADE artist conceptually presents a glimpse into a rich world that can harness our imagination, challenge our minds, or even question our own humanity. 

Ever since the TV set was turned into a black-and-white tennis match through Pong (1972), the evolution of technology that immerses us in game play has exceeded expectations. As the pioneers of Pong knew, it doesn’t take much to send a person on an adventure. We are all escape artists - only needing a little help from the artists who weave flights of fantasy into made up worlds with made up rules.

The artists in this exhibition don’t need high-end, state-of-the-art technology to create a transfixing game. The key is just the good ol’ fashioned imagination that you bring. While engaging with this exhibition, consider your favorite game, what it teaches you about the world, and about yourself? Is it reinforcing your beliefs or challenging them? Games have the power to change you and your mind, until then, they’re merely illusions.
