1920s Suffragist-series masks hand sewn by former curator Kathrine Page!

These masks are a must-have accessory in conjunction with our Art & Couture: A Contemporary Centennial celebration of the Suffrage Movement and 100 years of Women's Right to Vote. There are nine styles in this series, with each mask named after a prominent activist in the American Suffrage movement.

The progress toward equality reached its epitome on August 18, 1920, when Tennessee, the 36th state needed, voted for ratification. Votes for women came through supportive men. The UN Women’s HeForShe was established to encourage men (and young boys too) to continue rallying for gender equity. It calls for a cultural, social, and institutional change to advance the importance of identifying the benefits of a gender-equal society. In this simple, asymmetrical design, festooned in basic black and white and understated trimming, I’ve created a HeForShe mask befitting any gentleman with a slant toward equality.
